Sketchbook

A sketchbook is a lot of things. A place to take notes, to dump ideas, to iterate, to doodle. It's my place for words and pictures.

What does a fractal-faced man look like?

A little ditty surfaced during an ol' western pool party* that has stuck around in my household. I want to make some art around this strange and special lyric:

She's my third-person mama / and I'm her fractal-faced man

I'd like to approach it as a combo of illustration and hand-lettered type. But how does one illustrate the abstract concept of a third person mama? Or a fractal faced man?

To clarify, its a "you shoulda been there" kind of saying that has special meaning to the select few humans who were there during this lyric's inception, and I'm illustrating it for an audience who understands it, but the challenge of the interpretation remains.

Super quick sketch. Fractal-ing facial features, and "third-person" being literally three people. Meh.

How do you communicate a third-person mama? I'm thinking a woman with her eyes closed, and giant eyes watching over her. Something to imply consciousness... like mystical dots!

Okay what if the facial features fractal-ize from a whole face? What if they grow bigger? what if they grow smaller?

What if the whole face is fractal-ing? I'm liking this but maybe the head should rotate and overlap more. Also, some flourish-fails.

This will be an ongoing exploration. Stay tuned!
